Subcontract Drilling

At Onsen Energy we pride ourselves in supporting the green energy industry through our work alongside installers. We provide subcontract drilling services to heat pump installers who don’t have the equipment or expertise in this specialist field. We offer the latest equipment, ensuring an efficient and safe service and a team with over a decade of experience in drilling and installation of geothermal boreholes.

We are a trusted supplier to heat pump installers and have the expertise to offer services including drilling and installation of heat extraction loops, and the required geology reporting that also ensures the most conductive material is used to grout the loops in place, giving your customer the most energy efficient solution.

We pride ourselves in offering a professional service with well-run and maintained sites, our continual investment in onsite equipment ensures we are able to operate at our safest, most efficient and all whilst minimising disruption for your clients.

Heat Pump Installation

Whether you already have a designated area to use as a plant room or you plan to extend your property, we can install the heat pump alongside a contract or directly into an existing building.

At Onsen Energy we guarantee a seamless and timely transition through each stage of your installation, ready for your heating engineer to decommission your own boiler and switch to your new greener energy supply.

For every complete heat pump installation, we will commit to planting 150 trees through the Trees for the Future initiative.

Consultation & Recommendation

Find out which solution is right for you.

Our team of experts in-house consultant will complete a site survey to review the energy consumption and efficiency of your home or plans and recommend the optimal vertical solution for renewable energy on your home or development.

Following this initial survey to assess the required heat output, our designers will review your local geology to create a system bespoke to your property and ground conditions.

We may also be able to advise on additional steps you could explore to further enhance the energy performance of your property and ensure your vertically installed heat pump system is operating at its most eco-friendly and financially efficient.

Waterwells

As part of our drilling expertise, we are able to offer a water well drilling service that allows you to harvest groundwater for domestic properties or commercial premises with a high-water demand.

Your own private water supply, with the ability to harvest up to 20,000 litres per day without a licence, water wells are the perfect solution to high water demand and costly bills, with no danger of having a hosepipe ban imposed.

Water extracted from underneath the ground is eco-efficient and can either be used as is for irrigation and commercial purposes or filtered for human consumption.

Waterwells are being utilised across the UK to decrease water bills and lower the burden on regional water suppliers.

What is vertical ground
source heating?

Ground source heat pumps offer an efficient, reliable and renewable energy solution that eliminates the reliance on fossil fuels for heating and hot water. Coupled with a renewable energy supplier, your heating becomes 100% carbon neutral.

Ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems use ground heat exchange loops to extract thermal energy from below the ground to provide heating and hot water for your home. This constantly renewable source of heat is channelled to the heat pump where it is converted to a higher temperature for domestic uses.

In the UK underground temperatures are consistently around 8-12 degrees, by extracting this heat stored in the ground, you are able to achieve the most efficient renewable supply of energy vs alternative methods whereby the heat pump often has to compensate for real-time air temperatures.

Vertical vs Horizontal

Using vertically drilled boreholes for the heat extraction probes has a number of key advantages of over horizontal closed loop systems.

- Vertical boreholes are a more versatile and widely accessible form of ground source energy for either new build or retrofit as they simply don’t require the acres of land to harvest energy from the ground
- They are the perfect solution to work around obstacles such as tree roots, outdoor buildings, swimming pools, ponds and other hard landscaping
- There is considerably less disturbed ground to be re-established
- They can be installed during construction phase underneath buildings and hard landscaping if space requirement is a barrier
